Guides such as Ole, Serena, Frida, and Sabrina add local stories, though the food portions are closer to samples than a full meal.

“Guide Our guide was pleasant enough, but she wasn't able to answer many of the questions she was asked. Also the stories dragged on a bit too long - it took 25 minutes to tell the prince story and it wasn't really worth it... Food The food was very disappointing. It started with a fish cake (I didn't like it but others did). We continued with a cinnamon bun with brown cheese. This was the highlight ! We also had 20 ml of apple juice and some dried fish. It continued with lunch which was a disappointing soup of lamb, that most people did not enjoy. A small salad was…”

“I really enjoyed the tour. In addition to general historical facts, I was given a lot of exciting information and stories about the dark past of the Nordnesviertel. Accommodation for sailors in rehabilitation, witch hunts and death sentences... a tour away from the mainstream, exactly what I was looking for. My guide Dane was very friendly and all questions were answered patiently. I was the only participant on the tour that day. Even after the tour ended, time was taken to answer further questions independently of the tour. I can absolutely recommend the tour and had a wonderful time! Thanks Dane for everything :)”

Start at Bergen’s flower-filled Musikkpaviljongen with a local English-speaking guide such as Sami or Sammy. Over about two hours, walk through Byparken, the fish market, St. Mary’s Church, Bergenhus Fortress, Bryggen, and the Hanseatic Museum. Bring comfortable shoes, rainwear, and cash for the guide’s tip.

“Sammy was excellent! Energetic and knowledgable of Bergen and its history. He gave us many useful tips and suggestions. We toured many of the key attractions and he pointed out some interesting little known facts like the phone booths that act as book exchanges. What disturbed me was that Sammy only got paid by tips and not from Viator after we paid Viator for this tour. Viator also didn't list this as a tip based tour when it was posted. Very deceiving and we felt bad for Sammy after an excellent tour.”

“A great foot tour of Bergen while hearing a riveting story. This was a marvelous way to see the city. We stopped by several unscheduled stops for a glass of wine, a bit of shopping and lunch at the fish market. Only negative was the distance from our cruise ship to the start point. We took the Hop on Hop off bus around first and then got off to do the walk.”
